GreenDot – movement.nyu.edu/greendot
University research sponsored by government is owned by the University. GreenDot uses image processing to analyze human movements of specific individuals.
GreenDot puts green dots in place of markers – some pretty impressive stuff with it, like building lie detectors.
CuZero – a new image search engine – current image search doesn’t work well. This program was developed at Columbia University. Visual classifiers are used with automatic weight variation instead of keywords. Filtering tools can analyze and sort pictures by metadata created by the camera from which the picture was taken.
CuZero is effective for large photo libraries; impressed how text queries and metadata are merged in this interface.
ClassWish – launches on Sepember 8th.
Musically Intelligent Machines – teaching computers to listen to music and describe it. The MIM program has a vocabulary of 75 terms right now. The graduate student who created MIM figured out how to create a filter for “British” music, musically intelligent .
What’s the difference between MIM and Pandora? 50 programmers!
FashionCampNYC.com – taking place at ITP location at NYU on September 12th & 13th, free, should be interesting.
Robotic Vision project -NYU – teaching robots to see. Netscale.com/iger
Dan Bricklin & Anil Dash – Anil Dash is a blogger and entreprenur who was inspired by Dan Bricklin, who invented the VisiCalc spreadsheet program.
VisiCalc – when Dan Bricklin started, he worked on a variety of things, including Unix and Word Processing.
Dan Bricklin had an idea, but now he had to make it a product.

Dan Bricklin believes software needs to be flexible enough to serve creativity, and users determine it’s feature. Dan showed a few movies that were very funny.
When Dan Bricklin invented the spreadsheet, he was surprised at some of the uses, like casino gambling, etc.
What Dan did reminds me of Twitter.
Dan Bricklin has many thoughts about Social Media including gesturial interfaces controlling the same computers.
Netbooks – emeraged from One Laptop per Child.
After the New York Tech Meetup at FIT was over, I bought a copy of Dan Bricklin’s “Bricklin On Technology” book that was published this year; I found Dan to be a very good speaker and easy to listen to, he believes the role of an Engineer is to ” build the world”.
I wanted Dan Bricklin’s book for another reason, in 1988 I had a freelance job at Chase Manhattan Bank as a CBT designer, the product I used, and got very good at …. Dan Bricklin’s DEMO II program, ahead of it’s time, even then!
Dan and I had a chuckle when I brought up DEMO II, he talked about redirecting it, maybe, putting some code up on his site, DanBricklin.com.
“I wrote every line of code in Demo II” … Dan Bricklin.
